The Junior Leadership Team consists of pupils from each year group from Year 7 to Year 11. The purpose of our Junior Leadership Team is to encourage pupils to be involved in all aspects of life at The Connaught School and to ensure the pupil voice is heard. We are striving to create, in cooperation with the Headteacher, staff and pupils, a better school life for the pupils and a forward thinking community.
The Junior Leadership Team are full of new ideas to help everyone have a better school life and environment in which to learn. We don't just want to help change the school this year, but make changes that will have an influence in the future.
At our Junior Leadership Team meetings we have already started to understand the real expense of running a school and the cost of buying items which are wanted by pupils to help improve our school. For example, to fix the bike sheds we found it would cost approximately £3000, so we are now trying to find out if it is possible to mend the roof and how much this would cost.
On Monday 10th February we had our first meeting with Mrs Abbott, to discuss some of the ideas and changes we would like to see and feel could make our school better. These included more bins for rubbish around the school , more benches (where action has already been taken so we now have 10 new benches on their way!) and to have inspirational and motivational quotes around the school to push pupils to succeed in their school life. Not all of our ideas are to improve the lives of our pupils, we also wish to help our community by raising money to help local charities. In future meetings we will come to a conclusion as to how we are to raise this money.
The Junior Leadership Team have been given turquoise shield badges to represent ourselves as JLT members. These are easy to see and we welcome you to come and give us any suggestions about changes you would like to make to the school. We hope all pupils feel able to talk to any of us to express concerns or suggest exciting new ideas. We soon hope to set up an email for JLT where pupils or staff can submit their ideas.
