Steel Pan Concerts
On Friday 9 March, the school steel band was invited to perform at the Princes Hall at the Mayor of Rushmoor’s Annual Community Concert. In a varied programme, and in front of a large audience, the band performed magnificently; played with confidence and with a great degree of musicality. This was particularly impressive, as it was the first public performance for many of the pupils.
The following Sunday, the Music for Youth Regional Festival took place at the Connaught School; this event is organised by our very own Mrs Brett, and Mr Simon Wyld, who, amongst many other roles, directs our school band. Once again, the Connaught School Steel band performed fantastically well, amongst performances from many other established ensembles. It fact, it would be fair to say that they raised their performance levels to an even higher level than the Friday.
We now play the waiting game, as we wait to find out if our musicians will be selected to perform at the National Festival in Birmingham during July. Fingers crossed!
Well done and thank you to - Lucy Dalton, Jade Davey, Louis Dillon, Edward Divers, Lea Haydon, Georgie Hopkins, Alison Kemp, Sarah-Jane Nicholson, Netra Pun and to former pupil Tom Hopkins.
Connaught Calls the Shots!
Aldershot FC and The Connaught School teamed up to run an award-winning Double Club for Year 6 pupils in our local Primary Schools in 2011. Due to its enormous success and popular demand, Double Club is back again in 2012; it's still completely free and better than ever!
The Double Club focuses on Literacy and Sport and is linked to the transition between Primary and Secondary School. The Connaught School provide the focussed literacy sessions, giving pupils greater confidence when writing, whilst Aldershot FC provide the fun sport element afterwards.
The pupils’ parents, also present for the literacy sessions, enjoyed free gym membership at Connaught Leisure throughout the six week programme.
Aldershot FC’s first team goalkeeper, Ross Worner, joined the pupils, parents and staff for a celebration of the pupils’ achievement at the end of last week. All of the pupils had worked very hard to produce a newspaper article on Aldershot’s home tie with league leaders Swindon. Geraint Hogan, Lily Norris and James Hurcomb received special recognition for their excellent efforts. They all predicted a magnificent win for Aldershot - which turned out to be true! The parents were absolutely delighted with the programme.
